Despite being great mimics the name lyrebird is actually due to the shape of the male’s tail which resembles the lyre musical instrument, not because he is pretending to be something else, ie. a liar. Pairing the lyrebirds with firewheel tree flowers in a phoenix vase (the bird who rises from the ashes) meant that I could reinvent the childhood rhyme to suit my love of puns and symbolism.
